Rome is located in the south of Europe, at the same latitude of New York. Rome is in the center of the Italian road system that developed from the old and ancient consular.

Starting from its foundation 2700 years ago on the seven hills, along the Tiber river that nowadays run through the city, Rome expanded and today has almost 3 million residents, in a 1,285.3 km2 (496.2 sq mi) area. Rome also houses the independent state Vatican City. Rome became Italy’s capital city in 1870.

Rome is 28 km. far from the coast and has excellent railway and road connections with most of the main Italian cities. Rome is about 20 meters above sea level, and is located on a plain in the middle of the Agro romano, bordering on the west with the Tirreno coast and on the east with the Appennines. On average the weather in Rome is temperate, with average temperatures between 5° C and 15° C ( 40°-60° F ) in the winter and between 20° C and 30° C  ( 70°-90° F ) during the summer.

Distances from other cities:
600 km (370 mi) to from Milan ( 4 and ½ hours by train or 50 minutes by plane)
200 km (125 mi) to Naples
300 km (185 mi) to Florence

Time difference:
The difference with some of the world’s most important cities is:
London –1
New York –6
Sidney +9

Getting To and From the Airport:
Rome has two main international airports : the Leonardo da Vinci or Fiumicino that is 30 km. (15 mi) southwest, and the Ciampino Airport, 15 Km. (10 mi) southeast. Fiumicino is the primary airport for international flights, Ciampino is primarily used for domestic flights.

Getting to Rome from either of these airports is quite simple and stress-free. Every 30 minutes a shuttle train connects you to Stazione Termini (the main railway station) for €11. The train\'s usual times are 5:52 am to 10:52 pm. Every 15 minutes there is also a regional train from the airport that stops in all the local stations including Trastevere, Ostiense, and Tiburtina which is €5.50.

Termini is the main railway station in Rome and it is also where the two Metro lines (“A” and “B” ) intersect which run from 05.30 to 23.30. Outside the Termini Station there are also many buses that you can take that run through the city.

Additionally, there is also a COTRAL bus shuttling between the airport to the Tiburtina Station and Termini. The Ciampino airport also has COTRAL buses that leave every 40 minutes from the airport to the Anagnina stop or Termini Station.

Taxis are also available but they are a more expensive option, because of the airport rate plus the extra fees for any luggage you may have.  Taxi’s from Ciampino are also available and are priced approximately the same way as with Fiumicino. Taking a taxi may seem like the best option, but there is a long wait and you run the risk of getting an unregistered taxi. Many people wait outside the airport offering taxi services to vulnerable tourists that don’t know what they’re getting. Even licensed taxi drivers take advantage of people, there are many stories of corrupt taxi drivers stealing, and overcharging their costumers. You just have to remember to be careful if you choose to take a taxi.
That\'s why we strongly recommend our Pick-Up service. With the Pick-Up service it’s much faster and a safe alternative. Instead of looking for a taxi, the driver will meet you in the airport terminal holding a sign with your name on it. If you choose not to purchase the Gold Service (which allows you to go directly to the apartment) then the driver will pass by our office to allow you to check-in, since they’re not running on a meter there won’t be additional charges for the wait. The Pick-Up Service has a fixed rate, with different prices depending on what vehicle you need for the number of people in your party.
